Dr. Margaret McKinney Buxton is a certified nurse-midwife, educator, and maternal health leader with more than four decades of experience helping women experience pregnancy and birth with greater confidence, connection, and trust. A passionate advocate for evidence-based, woman-centered maternity care, she is committed to expanding birth options and helping women experience the transformative power of empowered birth.
Margaret's journey began at The Farm, one of America's pioneering community birth centers, where she witnessed firsthand the transformative power of physiologic birth, loving community, and relationship-centered care. Those early experiences shaped a career dedicated to advancing maternity care through clinical practice, education, leadership, and innovation.
Margaret has served in leadership roles at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and helped found Baby + Co. Birth Centers and Diana Health, where she continues to champion a more integrated, woman-centered approach to maternity care.
A graduate of the Vanderbilt University Nurse-Midwifery Program, Margaret earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Alabama.
When she's not caring for women or writing, Margaret enjoys gathering around the table with family and friends, traveling, discovering great food, and spending time with her four children.
